General-rubbish.jpg

Moving house or clearing out a long-time family home can be a bit overwhelming: we get it. Box after box, years of accumulated belongings, and the growing realisation of just how much stuff you have to sort through; It’s a big job. At Bentley’s Skip Bin Hire, we’re proud to be the local partner for rubbish skip bin hire that Bendigo residents trust to handle their household waste.

We’re here to make the cleanup phase easy, stress-free, and straightforward. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of seeing a clean space once the job is finally done, and we’re excited to help you get there!

Skip Bins for Household Rubbish: What Can You Toss?

When you are tackling a major cleanout, you need to know exactly what can go into your rubbish skip bins. To make your cleanup as smooth as possible, we’ve broken down our guidelines into a simple checklist so you can pack your bin with confidence.

YES | What Can Go in Your Skip

Our general waste bins are perfect as skip bins for household rubbish. You can freely load these everyday items to the rim:

  • Furniture & Living Areas: Lounges, sofas, tables, chairs, toys, clothing, old lino, and general bric-a-brac.

  • Kitchen & Packaging: Cardboard boxes, plastics, metals, and smaller household appliances.

  • Shed & Garden Clear-outs: Green waste (clippings, branches), timber, general hand tools, and plastic storage tubs.

YES | Must be Placed on Top

We accept these items, but they require special handling for local recycling. Please ensure these are placed right on top of your waste:

  • Mattresses & Ensemble Bases: Allowed, but incur a $40 fee per item to cover recycling surcharges.

  • White Goods: Fridges, dryers, and washing machines (FREE to include).

  • E-Waste: Televisions and computer monitors (FREE to include).

Keeping Your Skip Safe & Clean: What Stays Out

Because our general waste bins are designed for lighter household clutter, heavy renovation materials and hazardous items cannot be included. Keeping these items out helps avoid extra contamination fees and keeps our drivers safe.

NO | What Must Not Go in Your Skip

If you’re clearing out a shed or garage and find some old chemicals, paint tins, or items you’re not quite sure about, just give us a bell before you toss them in. We're always happy to help you sort through the confusion.

  • Heavy Building Materials: Bricks, concrete, plaster, tiles, rocks, earth, sand, and old carpet. (If you have these, give us a buzz to ask about a heavy waste bin instead!)

  • Fire & Safety Hazards: Lithium-ion batteries (commonly found in modern toys, vapes, and cordless power tools), gas cylinders, explosive materials, and uncontained, fine, dusty substances such as asbestos.

  • Liquids & Chemicals: Chemicals, poisons, or liquids of any kind, including wet paint and automotive oil.

  • Pest & Odour Risks: Food scraps and putrescible waste. These must go in your standard council bin to prevent bad smells and pests.

  • Tyres: We no longer accept tyres.

Sizing Up Your General Rubbish Removal Needs

Choosing the right bin size can feel like guesswork, but we’re here to help you get it right so you don't pay for space you don't need. If you’re just tackling a room or two, or doing a standard seasonal spring clean, a 2m³ or 3m³ mini skip is usually plenty. If you’re clearing out a whole garage, a multi-bedroom home, or managing a large estate clearance, consider a 6m³ or larger bin.
